Wikiversity goes beta

Wikiversity has been around for a while as a sub-project of Wikibooks, but it recently launched into beta with it’s own domain. From the Wikiversity homepage:

Wikiversity is a space for the creation and use of free learning materials and activities. Its primary goals are to:

  • Create and host free content, multimedia learning materials, resources, and curricula for all age groups in all languages
  • Develop collaborative learning projects and communities around these materials

Wikiversity supports both learning and teaching. For further details about Wikiversity, see an outline of our policies.

I’ve already requested that the Web Design wikibook be moved over as it’s more appropriate at wikiversity. I love the idea of collaborative learning projects in a wiki – where it can be updated anywhere, anytime, whereever a contributor happens to be – so much so that I’ve already started a learning project!
Of course, it’s very early days yet, but it’s exciting to think where Wikiversity can potentially go.
